Welcome

The 47th Academy for American and International Law
May 16 - June 25, 2010

The venerable flagship of the Institute, the annual Academy of American and International Law conducts its six-week program at its Center headquarters in Plano, Texas each summer. The Academy gives lawyers and judges from outside the United States an opportunity to study American and international legal and business institutions, with an emphasis on American law and process. The Academy is business oriented and addresses a wide range of law-related commercial transactions

Applications are now being received. Continuing a new tradition, participants may receive a second certificate. In addition to the Certificate of Participation, which is awarded for class attendance, Academy students may take a series of short exams and earn the title of Academy Fellow.

The Academy application is available online in both the  Academy brochure or catalog.

2010 Advanced Academy for Alumni

The Institute will hold its first Advanced Academy for Alumni beginning Thursday evening, June 17 and continuing through Saturday, June 19, 2010. This will take place following the annual Symposium and Transnational Arbitration Workshop. Attendance will be open to both Academy alumni and other experienced international lawyers.

News and Notes

Be sure to check out our second Newsletter for many interesting and timely items related to our Institute and to the Academy.  We have also gathered many “Academy memories” which have been sent to us. Some samples are shown here:

Stefan Brunnschweiler (2001, Switzerland) – “Hot temperatures, hot discussions and hot people!  Kind regards”

Cecilia Flores Rueda (2007, Mexico) – “My days in the Academy have been the richest in my life, because of the first-class professors, the cultural diversity, the warmth of the hosts and participants, and all the joy and fun I got.”

Alumni E-Magazine
The E Magazine is an online collection of papers from past Academy participants. Bernardo Porras, the 2001-2002 Secretary General of the Alumni Association, originally conceived the idea for an E-Magazine at the 2001 Academy.
